 The Nellotones is a jazz/blues quartet with influences as far ranging as Nina Simone and Leonard Cohen to Jack White and Eminem. They approach their material with a sense of fun and always manage to convey that to their audience. Steve Waller, Sean McGee and Doug Gilchrist have been playing for years in various musical projects in the Ottawa area – both together and separately. They teamed up with Leanne Storms in the spring of 2012 and something just clicked. It was a case of three groove players finding a groove singer – or vice versa. The result was pure fun. They released their debut CD, In Play, in 2013 and their second CD, Read Page Six, in April 2016, accompanied by a video Sinnerman.
The Nellotones approach their material with a sense of fun that always manages to convey that to their audience. They donated proceeds from the sales of the two albums to OrKidstra, an Ottawa charity providing instruments, lessons and performance opportunities to youth from under-serviced communities. |
