Born and raised in Montreal, Mira Choquette has a repertoire that spans the years of the Great American Songbook, and includes works by some of jazz’s more contemporary composers. With a penchant for singers with an affinity for scatting and displaying the utmost musicality such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter and Nina Simone, she offers listeners an authentic vocal jazz experience reminiscent of a bygone era. She makes sure to leave room in her performances for the discovery and appreciation of more recent compositions. Along with her main accompanist Andres Vial, she has performed in venues of all sizes from jazz clubs and cabarets to large venues and outdoor stages. They’ve had a weekly gig in Montreal for over two years where they perform as a duo. They’ve also played once a month at the Upstairs Jazz Bar, one of Montreal’s premier jazz clubs. |
