Horizon Quintet performs at 12:00 noon on Saturday October 17, 2015 as part of a Double Bill at the Merrickville Community Center.
Although the Horizon Quintet only came together in the fall of 2014, the group is made up of musicians with extensive and diverse performance experience. Drawn to groove-based jazz, the band was initially formed to explore a repertoire of tunes by artists such as Rusty Bryant, Grant Green, Freddie Hubbard and Houston Person.
The Horizon Quintet bring fresh energy to the bandstand with their own takes on undiscovered classics from the 60s and 70s, as well as more experimental compositions by artists like Medeski and Martin & Wood. The energy of this group and the captivating repertoire has garnered rave reviews from local audiences at The Blacksheep Inn, The Rainbow, Pressed Café and Café Nostalgica. With bluesy guitar, cool trumpet and a dynamic rhythm section, Horizon Quintet delivers an exciting, energetic live show.
