For this performance at Merrickville’s Jazz Festival, the trio would like to perform a special selection of beautiful and moving vocal jazz standards, reflecting on our emotional connection with nature and each other.
Peter Liu is a popular jazz vocalist and bandleader in Ottawa, known for his warm velvety sound, creative phrasing and engaging presence. He has performed vocal jazz since 2007, leading bands and performing as a special guest vocalist for other groups. Peter’s jazz combos play regularly at a wide range of public and private events across the Ottawa area in a variety of improvisational styles, including swing, Latin, ballads, and blues. Highlight performances including appearances at the 2013 TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage, Rideau Hall, Ottawa’s City Hall and the Ottawa Convention Centre. Peter is also a core tenor member of the Ewashko Singers with shows at the National Arts Centre Southam Hall and other distinguished venues.

A busy performer, arranger and educator in Ottawa, Yves Laroche provides sensitive, tasteful, and creative accompaniment on piano, as well as unique arrangements for this program. He has appeared numerous times at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. As faculty member of the School of Music at the University of Ottawa and music director and instructor at the Bells Corners Academy of Music, Yves has taught jazz to many talented young people over the years.
Bassist Tom Denison is one of the most in-demand bass players in town, known for his inventive lines, impeccable time, and melodic soloing. Highlight performances include many appearances at the Montréal, Ottawa and Halifax jazz festivals, jazz broadcasts for CBC/Radio-Canada, and the CHEO and University of Ottawa Heart Institute telethons. Musically versatile, Tom is also an experienced drummer and music educator.
