The Mark Ferguson Quartet performs at 3:00 pm on Sunday October 16, 2016 at the Merrickville United Church.
The Mark Ferguson Quartet released their album The Next Chapter in the fall of 2015. The album is a collection of original material composed by Mark Ferguson and was recognized by the CBC as one of Canada’s 10 outstanding jazz albums of the year. Since then the quartet has performed several times at Gigspace in Ottawa. There, listeners experienced how Mark combines a quieter strain of jazz with classical elements but also a touch of latin and a bit of bebop.
A pillar of Ottawa’s jazz scene, Mark Ferguson is a pianist, trombonist, composer, arranger, producer, and music educator. He has performed with many of the world’s great artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Nelson Riddle, Dionne Warwick, Natalie Cole, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdink, Rosemary Clooney, Carol Channing, Rob McConnell & the Boss Brass, Holly Cole, Manteca, The Funk Brothers and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. Mark is a professor at Carleton University’s department of music and directs the Carleton Jazz Ensemble. He has served as a jazz clinician at high schools and universities across Canada.
