Petr Cancura Bio:

Originating in Czech Republic, Petr Cancura played with great jazz, folk and African artists before attending New England Conservatory which led to a 10-year residency in Brooklyn, New York. Petr, now based in Ottawa, Canada was the 2015 Artist-In-Residence of Carleton University, the Program Director of the Ottawa Jazz Festival and the MD of the National Arts Centre’s Crossroads Series.

Cancura blends roots music and jazz to create a new authentic sound. Down Home was nominated for a 2015 JUNO and awarded the Independent Music Award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year. A new release this summer features Kenny Wollesen, Tony Scherr and Rob Jost.

Cancura has performed and recorded with Danilo Perez, Bob Moses, Charlie Hunter, Joe Morris, Richie Barshay, Chic Corea, The Ghost Train Orchestra, Kathleen Edwards, The Mighty Popo, Matt Wilson. Other credits include performances with Julian Lage, Aretha Franklin, Jamie Cullum and many, many more.
