Normand Glaude rekindled his love for the harmonica, the very first instrument he played as a child. This concert entitled “Toots’ Suite” is a tribute to Belgian Jean ‘Toots’ Thielemans, arguably the finest jazz chromatic harmonica player of his time. Glaude, a long time Ottawa musician, has developed a lot of facility in recent years playing the chromatic harmonica according to Thielemans’ soulful and supremely melodic inspiration.
On the program will be some of Toots’ signature compositions along with other songs that Toots’ musical soul forever touched with his unmistakable sound. While few of Toots’s compositions became jazz standards, he was often called in as a guest artist to sprinkle his musical genius on recordings and movie scores which became the reference for many enthusiasts. Glaude seeks to relive some of that great music on stage.
Normand Glaude is mostly known around Ottawa as a double and electric bass player, and also as a studio engineer and producer. He regularly plays with Ottawa’s finest artists and has produced and/or recorded dozens of albums of various genres for his music colleagues. You can hear him on harmonica on “Of Light and Shadow” (Tim Bedner – 2012), and on a variety of local jazz artists recordings.
