MICHEL LEGRAND – A whole life of exquisite melodies…
Nicole Ratté, a well-known jazz vocalist in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, has prepared a tribute to one of her favorite composers, Michel Legrand. This is an invitation to dive into the repertoire of this fascinating and passionate artist who composed hundreds of songs and film scores and who recorded more than 100 albums during his prolific career. You will hear many of Michel Legrand’s most beautiful songs as well as some lesser known pieces that are just as delightful, in English and in French. Soft romantic songs will share the stage with energetic rhythms while a touch of humour will color the whole performance.
A musician and singer since childhood, Nicole evolved in different styles before developing a true passion for jazz. At home on the stage, she is known for her warm and effervescent presence and her light and sensual voice. She appeared several times at the Ottawa Jazz Festival and sang at Merrickville’s Jazz Fest, the 1000 Islands Jazz & Blues festival, NAC Fourth Stage, Gigspace, Salle Odyssée, Rideau Hall, Château Laurier, Hilton Lac-Leamy and several other venues and events.
Nicole also teaches vocal jazz, piano and voice with her communicative enthusiasm. Her jazz workshops, created in 2004, (www.vocaljazzworkshops.com) are now generating new jazz vocalists and new jazz fans. Since then, she has organized and produced dozens of concerts for her students and herself. She is currently preparing her first vocal jazz camp in the Fall (www.
Her album When Somebody Thinks You’re Wonderful, on which you can find a beautiful rendition of Legrand’s You Must Believe in Spring, was recorded in 2010. Two of the songs from that album are now on compilations in Asia.
