Alternate Takes is a dynamic nine-piece instrumental jazz group comprised of some of the best jazz musicians the area has to offer. The band’s name comes from its repertoire which consists of their “take” on great jazz tunes; the group excels at delivering original versions of the jazz repertoire featuring arrangements by band leader Jean Trudel and other arrangers who have done charts just for them. Alternate Takes has been entertaining audiences in the National Capital Region for over 14 years. The group’s members also have extensive experience playing in various other bands, mostly in the jazz genre.
The band is fronted by five horns – trumpet, trombone, tenor sax, alto sax and baritone sax – and backed by a driving rhythm section – piano, guitar, bass, drums – giving its fans a truly unique listening experience. Swing, Latin, Bebop, Funk . . . the result is a soundscape that possesses that sensational big band feeling in ensemble playing, and, that intimate moody jazz vibe during solos.
