On Sunday October 18, 2020 at 4:00 PM we are delighted to welcome back a familiar face to MJF as the Laura Anglade Duo takes the stage
at The Canterbury Music Company’s beautiful studio in Toronto.
Laura Anglade has previously headlined with her quintet at MJF and returned the following year to the Baldachin Restaurant during her 2019 CD release tour. Laura is one of our most popular and talked-about artists and we are delighted to have her be part of our 10th Anniversary Season. This time,  Laura will be accompanied by Lucian Gray, a very talented guitarist on the Toronto scene and alumnus of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in jazz guitar performance.
The Laura Anglade Duo’s concert video lasts an hour and will be available to pass and ticket holders for a 24-hour viewing period once the video premieres at 4:00 PM EDT. So if you’re tuning in from a different time zone or if you can’t make it for the live broadcast, you can catch the show later.

Laura Anglade is a young Toronto-based jazz vocalist currently making a name for herself on the Canadian jazz scene and beyond. Originally from Brousse-Le-Chateau, a small village in the South of France, and raised in Connecticut, she is influenced by her parents’ gypsy jazz and classical backgrounds. Her story-telling interpretations of lesser-known standards and melodic approach to improvisation portray a soul beyond her years. She offers a fresh approach, while attracting a new, younger following to the art form to help keep it flourishing and relevant.

Some of her inspirations include Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Etta Jones, Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn and Blossom Dearie. Laura has performed in numerous jazz festivals, including the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival and Merrickville’s  Jazz Fest. She has performed in numerous venues in Montreal as well as in Toronto where she is currently based. Those venues include Diese Onze Jazz Club, concert hall Salle Bourgie as well as a monthly residency at the renowned jazz club, Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill, since June 2017. Anglade has also performed at the Jazz Bistro in Toronto and The Jazz Room in Kitchener.

Laura released her debut album entitled I’ve Got Just About Everything featuring her quintet in June 2019 on Justin Time Records; this was followed by a week-long Southern Ontario tour starting in Montreal as part of the Montreal Jazz Festival followed by performances in Prince Edward County, Merrickville and wrapping up at GigSpace, in Ottawa. The recording has since been met with international praise by critics and fans alike. Laura was named by Radio Canada’s Ici Musique as “one of the top five female jazz musicians to watch for”.
