MJF 2020 Virtual Edition was a great success and it was a joy to celebrate the 10th Anniversary Season with everyone.
Now we are pleased to present Jazz In Merrickville.
MJF was traditionally an annual live weekend-long event presented on the weekend following Thanksgiving in the beautiful village of Merrickville. It was a community-sponsored and volunteer-run festival that offered a variety of jazz programming delivered by emerging, mid-career and senior jazz musicians. Like for so many others, the challenges of presenting music in the age of COVID-19 made it necessary for us to find other ways to keep the festival going in 2020 and so the virtual festival was born. We had a very big learning curve in order to adapt MJF to an online event but with encouragement, help and training from a number of people, we were able to do it and are very proud of the results.
MJF was the brainchild of two local community-minded jazz enthusiasts and made its debut in 2011. The dedicated efforts of its volunteer organizers, steadily growing attendance and early recognition for excellence encouraged its continued growth. MJF was an informal non-profit organization with a history of donating funds to support music appreciation for youth in the community.
MJF was proud to have been an independent cultural activity organized by a devoted team of volunteers committed to bringing great jazz performances to Merrickville. Festival-goers have commented on the friendliness of our volunteers and the charm of the village while applauding the overall calibre, variety, originality and uniqueness of the artists; musicians love performing at MJF and have also helped spread the word about this little gem of a festival!
And now, as a farewell to MJF, we are pleased to present Jazz In Merrickville, celebrating our community and great performances of live jazz!
