For over 20 years, versatile vocalist Brenda Lewis has been singing professionally,15 of those as a jazz vocalist, performing with some of Toronto and Canada’s finest jazz musicians, including long-time music partners guitarist Margaret Stowe, guitarist and Juno Award-winning producer Tony Quarrington, and pianist John Zadro.
Originally from the Brockville area, Brenda is what’s known as a “natural”. Previous to jazz, her background was in the folk/Americana/country blues genres – in acclaimed SW Ontario eclectic duo LEWIS & MOLESWORTH, along with R&B/funk/gospel/blues. She is also an adept harmony/backing vocalist and began her career singing in a capella trios (similar to Sweet Honey in the Rock). Brenda’s newest CD entitled JAZZLIKE is currently receiving airplay on CBC Radio across Canada and features Brenda on vocals and Margaret Stowe on guitar. Rob Martin started playing guitar as a teenager and absorbed jazz through the influence of his father. In his teens Rob studied with Tony Bradan and Andy Krehm. He entered the Humber College Jazz Program and after that studied classical guitar with Danielle Kassner at the Guitar Society of Toronto. Rob was a regular fixture in alternative music groups in Toronto before moving to Ottawa in 1996. From 2004 onward Rob has regularly performed in jazz and gypsy jazz formats. Partners in crime include Peter Hum, Paul Bordeau, Gerri Trimble, Renée Yoxon, Floyd Hutchinson, Richard Page, Karen Rauh, Mark Fraser and Charley Gordon.
